Founder of BeatIQ Academy | Mom of Two | Making Math Fun for Every Child
Hi, I’m Shuting Song, a mother of two and the creator of this unique multiplication learning system. I live in Ohio and earned my Master’s degree in the U.S. after growing up in China. As a former adjunct professor with a passion for education and a lifelong love for music, I’ve always believed that learning should be engaging and enjoyable. But when my son struggled to memorize multiplication facts, I realized there had to be a better way.
A Challenge Many Parents Can Relate To
After two months of learning multiplication, my son came home from school frustrated. He had been practicing, but he just couldn’t remember the multiplication facts —despite having an amazing and dedicated math teacher.
Wanting to help, I searched online for a multiplication chart to print out and practice with him—but what I found completely surprised me.
A Multiplication Chart I Didn’t Recognize
The American multiplication grid looked nothing like what I had learned growing up in China.
(The American multiplication grid vs. the Chinese multiplication chart shown above.)
✅ The American Grid – Students must locate one factor in the left column and the other in the top row, then find the intersection. While useful for reference, its scattered layout can be overwhelming for memorization.
✅ The Chinese Multiplication Chart – A triangular, logical progression from 1×1 to 9×9, eliminating redundancies. Used in China for over 2,000 years, it allows children to naturally memorize multiplication through rhythmic chanting.
I tried teaching my son the Chinese method, but there was a problem—he speaks English and only a little Chinese, and memorizing the facts in another language made it even harder.
I attempted to translate the Chinese chants into English, but the rhythm was lost.
That’s when I had a new idea.
Turning Multiplication into Music
I had recently published a solar system book with a fun sing-along song, which gave me an idea—what if I used music to teach multiplication?
I created catchy, rhyming lyrics for each multiplication topic and paired them with unique music styles:
🎵 Multiply by 2? A whimsical blend of jazz, swing, and theatrical magic!
🍀 Multiply by 3? A Celtic folk dance full of energy!
⚔️ Multiply by 4? Viking-style soft rock & roll!
🐉 Multiply by 7? A Chinese Kung-Fu beat packed with excitement!
And so much more to discover!
I wrote the lyrics and carefully chose a unique music style for each multiplication topic. Using AI as a composition tool, I transformed my ideas into fully produced songs. Finally, I created animated music videos to bring the learning experience to life.
But music alone wasn’t enough—kids needed hands-on practice to fully master multiplication.
Beyond Music – Hands-On Practice for Lasting Learning
I’ve always believed in the saying, "A dull pencil is better than a sharp memory." Writing things down reinforces learning in a way that memorization alone never could.
So I designed:
✅ 3-day learning system – Just 20 minutes a day to master each topic. 3 weeks total for the whole series.
✅ 5-Level Gamified Worksheets – Increasing difficulty for progressive mastery.
✅ Ultimate Multiplication Tables – A structured system blending my rhyming approach with the Chinese multiplication chart for total recall so that kids can see the bigger picture and recall all facts with ease.
The Results? It Works!
My son went from struggling to excitedly singing multiplication facts. But what amazed me most? My 6-year-old daughter, who wasn’t even learning multiplication yet, picked up the songs naturally and started solving problems too!
That’s when I knew this method was something special.
A Learning Approach for Every Child
Every child learns differently—some by seeing, some by listening, some by saying things out loud, and some by doing.
That’s why I designed this method to engage all learning styles:
- Music & Rhymes – For auditory learners.
- Animated Videos – For visual learners.
- Practice Sheets & Gamified Challenges – For hands-on learners.
After seeing how well this method worked for my own kids, I knew I had to share it—so more kids could master multiplication the fun and stress-free way!
